Greenpoint fire
A huge fire blazed out the warehouse along the East River between Greenpoint Avenue and Oak Street got caught on Fire. This was no little fire. It took place about 5:30 in the morning. With this fire no one knew what happened and plus the factor was abannded for many years. This terminal was about 3 blocks of width which you can say the fire was huge and spread very quickly. We can also say that it it was a very big suprize of how the fire started by the owner of the buildings, Joshua Guttman who was later found that he burned down his factories so that he can recover insurance money. And he bought the factorys just 2 weeks before the fire .

Arrest in Shooting of Boy

A police officer arrested an 18 year old boy who shot a 10-year-old boy in Greenpoint on Halloween. This happened by just starting by an egg fight but then it would turn in to a gunfight. With the 18 year old taking out a gun and shooting the 10 year old boy in the neck. The little boy was in Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan with a gunshot wound to the neck and in stabled condition. I say that after reading this article we should rely put up a new law about guns or carrying them. OR we should at least make the punishments crueler because some one might die or seriously get hurt. After reading this article you can see this happening more often and not only in green point but in other communities and this makes you think about are now living in a safe community or are we even safe form people like this 18 year old bo

y because this shows that some people don’t care about their life’s and their actions.

Greenpoint Starbucks Marquee Amazes, Confounds

On April 14 on Manhattan Ave their was a grand openingof Green point Starbucks Marquee Amazes, It was a shock and people were surprised that they made a star bucks in a place where burger king use to be, But after seeing the reactions on many peoples faces it shows that it’s a good place to have it at and maybe its just what the community of green point needs, a place where they could relax and drink a coffee over a nice talk. Plus with this opening their can be small musicians parties so that small bands can come and people can enjoy themselves. Plus with star bucks it gave some people a chance to work at and it’s in a good place to have a good business going cause its like the busiest aver that people work at and go shopping at. But as we look at how the community reacted and most of them are against it but some don’t care but what they think its just a waste of space cause you can buy coffee at a store or a supermarket and that spot would be decent for anything else then a coffee shop.

The Oil Under Greenpoint

http://www.curbed.com/archives/2006/05/09/is_the_greenpoint_oil_spill_headed_for_lic.php

Another top story in greenpoint is the 17 million gallons of oil spilling from its container, contaminating waterways and wreaking havoc on the environment. The records show that Exxon refineries in New York leaked millions of gallons of oil into Newton Creek, a shipping tributary of the East River that forms a natural boundary between Brooklyn and our neighbor to the north, Queens. So you can stay that greenpoint is an honor sign of a site of one of the worlds worst underground oil spills. Plus this oil spill accorded and no one in greenpoint or in Brooklyn knew about this until weeks later when small conversations began. Also another event was that back in history way back when oil was refining it was a messy, leaky business. And in 1950, a gasoline leak reportedly caught fire. That set off an explosion thatshot manhole covers25 feet into the air. And then about 28 years later Coast Guard helicopter spotted a big old plume of oil flowing into Newtown Creek. In one location, under Kingsland Avenue, the gas and oil layer was more than 20 feet thick. Until 1990 no one would do anything about this mess it took 12 years just to think about what to do until Exxon Mobile stared cleaning up its mess. So as you can this was a major event that occurred in greenpoint that not everyone knows about.
